Welcoming the new Rector Father David

Rector’s welcome

Welcome to our benefice web site. In the photograph above you see our Rector, Rev’d David Ridgeway, at the celebration following his Induction Service on Sunday 29th November 2015. The service took place in our largest church, at Castor, dedicated to St. Kyneburgha, a Saxon princess, who in the seventh century founded a convent where the church now stands, among the ruins of what is thought to have been the second largest Roman building in Britain. The present church is Norman, and has some rare and beautiful carving on the tower. It was dedicated in 1124. The main benefice Holy Communion service is held here every Sunday at 10.15am.

Light in Winter Darkness

This January the St Kyneburgha Church Council Giving Committee invites you to help share God’s light in the winter darkness by giving a donation to a mental health charity. January and February are often dark and difficult months for many people. Many people have a “dry January” and choose to give up alcohol and perhaps eat a little less to get over the excesses of their Christmas celebrations. Why not consider giving the money you save through your January abstinence to help someone in darkness.

“Light in Winter Darkness” giving envelopes will be available at St Kyneburgha’s throughout January. Donations can be made using these, either by placing envelopes in the collection plate during services or by putting them in the collection box beside the church door. All money given in this way will be passed on to the Richmond Fellowship which is a national mental health charity which also works locally to help support individuals and families on their road to recovery from mental illness. If we work together, we can help to make God’s light to shine more brightly upon those who find themselves in darkness this winter.  Thank you.

Fr. David
