Welcoming the new Rector Father David

Rector’s welcome

Welcome to our benefice web site. In the photograph above you see our Rector, Rev’d David Ridgeway, at the celebration following his Induction Service on Sunday 29th November 2015. The service took place in our largest church, at Castor, dedicated to St. Kyneburgha, a Saxon princess, who in the seventh century founded a convent where the church now stands, among the ruins of what is thought to have been the second largest Roman building in Britain. The present church is Norman, and has some rare and beautiful carving on the tower. It was dedicated in 1124. The main benefice Holy Communion service is held here every Sunday at 10.15am.

Our churches re-open for public worship

Now that public worship is permitted in our churches once again we have resumed some of our regular Sunday services.  In order to do this safely it is important that we follow the guidelines that have been issued. This means that the services will be slightly different from what we have been used to.

Each Sunday we will hold a service at 9am at Marholm and a 10.15am service at Castor.  There will also be a service on the fourth Sunday at Sutton at 9am.  Where possible these will be Holy Communion services and they will be subject to the following restrictions :-

– Hand sanitisation must take place on entry and exit to the church.

– 2M Social distancing must be maintained. This means that some pews will be unavailable so people may not be able to sit in their favourite seat.

– Services will be shorter than normal.

– At Holy Communion only the bread will be administered and communicants will receive this standing.

– Communal singing is not permitted but it is hoped that our services will include music played on the organ and sung by a solo cantor.

– No service sheets or booklets will be distributed.

– We will not be able to offer toilet facilities and sadly no after service refreshments can be served at the moment.

As the Cedar Centre is currently closed we regret that we will be unable to offer Children’s Church until September at the earliest.

Baptism, Wedding and Funeral services can take place once again but attendance at these is currently limited to 30 people.  This means that Baptisms will not be able to take place during Sunday morning services.

We are sorry about all these restrictions but they are a reflection of the situation that we all face at the moment.  We very much hope that following the safety guidelines will not spoil the worship that we can offer and that people will feel welcome at our services.

You may also view our weekly reflection and message from Fr David via our YouTube Channel and Fr Ray will continue to hold Evening Prayer via Zoom each Sunday at 6pm.

Please contact us by telephone or email with prayer requests, if you are in need or you simply wish to talk.
