Friday 10th July 2009 – Wild West Night

A fun filled evening for all the family. Held in a marquee on the field of Castor CE Primary School the evening included a variety of western themed children’s’ games, bbq, tuck shop and fully licensed bar. Music and line dancing was provided by the Claddagh Band who made a popular return to the festival and although not compulsory, revellers arrived in their best western dress!

Saturday 11th July 2009 – Afternoon Fete

On a typical July Saturday afternoon (sunshine and showers!) Yes – you really can see your favourite teddy bungee jump from St. Kyneburgha’s tower…the church fete took place on the grounds of Castor School. A well supported afternoon, all visitors were treated to some regular features of the annual event – tombola, afternoon teas and lots of games for everyone to enjoy – with some new attractions too. Children could enjoy racing in go karts, adults could place their bets on their favourite pigeon as it took to the skies for a race and we could all watch our favourite teddy bungee jump from the top of the church tower!

Music was provided by the Fortissimo brass band inside the marquee, whilst outside displays of country dancing from Castor School children and historic Viking life presented by Clan Wulfar could be enjoyed. The Milton Estate hounds also made an appearance along with a collection of vintage cars. The finale to the afternoon was the tug of war firstly between the two village pubs – The Royal Oak and The Prince of Wales Feathers and then a well supported children’s’ version!

CASA produced yet another superb display of local art talent in the Cedar Centre..

With a short turnaround, the marquee then became the venue for the much anticipated Saturday Night Festival Fever…..

Saturday 11th July 2009 – Saturday Night Festival Fever

…The evening started with music provided by new local band The Surfriders who describe themselves as playing traditional or first wave surf and instrumental music from the golden age of rock-n-roll. And followed by the popular teenage group the Erazers with their second festival appearance. Both bands provided some great tunes to warm everyone up, many of whom had dressed for the occasion in the most outrageous (and bad taste) seventies gear!

The Wishing Tree raised almost £1k for the village organizations offering some fantastic prizes all generously donated (please see links below) – we are grateful for all support given.

The evenings’ headline was popular tribute group ABBA Fever who made sure that the dance floor was packed for the rest of the evening.

We will bring you news of the final total raised following the festival weekend. All monies raised will be split between the church of St. Kyneburgha, Castor & Ailsworth Village Hall and CASPRA.

We thank everyone for their support given in so many ways. Not only to all those who helped organize the events but also to all those individuals and organisations who kindly donated their time and prizes. We would like to acknowledge the following:
